2022 Rotto Squad - Training
The eSWIM Rotto Training Squad swimmers will have access to 3 interesting and varied training sessions per week over 17 training weeks. The sessions are specifically designed to prepare solo and duo swimmers for a Rottnest Crossing or similar.
Monday 5.30am - 7.00am
Thursday 7.00pm- 8.30pm
Saturday 6.00am - 8.00am
In addition, an optional e-Pod session is available on Tuesday mornings from 5.30am - 7am. The e-Pod session is a distance training session designed for solo swimmers to test their swimming over longer intervals. Attendance at these sessions is optional but encouraged for all solo swimmers. Details on how to register for the e-Pod sessions will be provided at the Rotto Squad Info Session. There is an additional fee to attend the e-Pod sessions and these classes will commence in the first week of November.
The program commences Monday 18 October 2021 and runs through to Thursday 24 February 2022, with a Christmas break from Friday 24 December – Monday 3 January inclusive. Please refer to the Training Calendar for a comprehensive training session listing. Those swimmers planning on competing in the 2022 Port to Pub will have the option to extend their training sessions for an additional 2 week period (additional fees will apply).
All sessions will be held at Perth's leading aquatic facility, HBF Stadium, Stephenson Ave, Mt Claremont. Sessions are scheduled to be held in the outdoor 10 lane pool but are subject to change.
The training program will be divided into 4 x 4-5 week phases with each phase building towards race preparedness on Saturday 26 February. The coaches will be tailoring each session to accommodate all standards and whilst swimmers will feel that they are pushing themselves to improve they will not be pushed beyond their physical and mental capabilities. We care about the health of our swimmers!!
Ocean / River Swims
Key events such as the 10km trial events for solos will be factored into the training program and advice given on which open water events to include in your schedule for maximum benefit. It is expected that ALL members of the squad participate in the Christmas 10K event on Saturday 18th December as there will be no squad training this day. More details will be provided closer to the time.
All swimmers are encouraged to have at least one ocean or river swim per week for at least 6-8 weeks prior to the event with solo swimmers encouraged to include open water training throughout the program. We will schedule guided river and ocean swims throughout the program with an opportunity to practice race nutrition and cold-water acclimatisation. Dates for these events will be provided at the start of the squad.
Places are strictly limited so get your enrolment in NOW to avoid disappointment.
